Throw Down: Lycra or No Lycra

Great article about what to wear while biking covering a diverse set of views. Thanks for the post Performance Bicycle.

Performance Bicycle Blog

To wear or not to wear, that is the question. Few things seem to divide cycling tribes quite as much as lycra clothing. While for some, a pair of padded bike shorts and a zip up jersey are necessities, for others they are an eye sore that carries certain connotations with it. To be certain, lycra isn’t for everyone—and choosing to wear it or not to wear it is a personal choice.

As with most debates, neither side is right or wrong, necessarily. For the sake of argument though, let’s take a look at some of the pro’s and con’s of lycra.

Lycra is something most riders find a lot of benefit in...but not everyone Lycra is something most riders find a lot of benefit in…but not everyone

Pro’s:

  • Super Comfortable: There’s no two ways about it, properly fitting lycra shorts and a good jersey are some of the most comfortable clothing you’ll ever wear
  • Feeling Fast: Wearing lycra can make you feel…

Bike shorts….A necessary evil

Lovin those legs!

Reinventing the Wheel at 50

I’ve heard it said that how cool you look in lycra padded bike shorts is inversely related to the distance from your bike. In other words, when I’m standing next to my bike, I’m cool. When I walk into the convenience store, I’ve become a dork. That being said, after donning the awkward apparel, I would never ride a bike even for the shortest ride without them. This is a classic picture on how not to wear bike shorts.

There are some things you need to know about choosing appropriate bike shorts. There are a number of different styles and lengths for the various cycling disciplines. Like any other sport, most cyclists are a bit snobbish about how they look. Mountain Bikers like to wear long shorts over their padded ones and touring bikers are similar. We’ll focus on road cycling attire for this post.

My boyfriend tried Hoop and Silk!

Mens pole dancing a great post from Polehigh from 2013. The power strength and agility can only be admired. Thanks Polehigh

Polehigh

IMG_0372 I like the idea of Phil trying out the hoop and silk for many reasons. Firstly, I think it’s cool for him to try something few men would dare. The mere fact that he has to wear tights and hold awkward poses in front of other people is difficult enough.

Also I like him to have an idea of what I do in the studio so that he’ll know what to tell other people if they asked. He can help a lot in this changing-poledancing-hoop-silk-mindsets-campaign.

Third, I want him to have a bit of background so that in the future, he can help me out when I do some stunts. While I think it’s farfetched, there’s still that little hope that he’d love it and he’d be a regular and he’d be my partner in the future but let us not get carried away!IMG_2015IMG_0379IMG_2030

Bike Pants & Jersey Sale

ABC Bicycle Outlet is closing down. I noticed these Club bicycle shorts or bicycle knicks by UNO which are on sale for $15.00.

I’ve ordered from ABC previously and picked up cycling gloves two seasons ago for $5.00- which are still $5.00.

Club knicks

Club cycling knicks by UNO

UNO’s Club knicks  are identical in cut and have the same 3-dimensional (3D) CoolMax insert (chamois) as the Pro Peloton.

Both the Club and Pro Peloton are an  8-panel cut and both are made of qualityDuPont Lycra .

The difference is the Club is made of alighter Lycra , has a slightly shorter leg length, and has no leg gripper.

These 3 points allow them to be offered as entry-level knicks at a very affordable price. The Club knicks can also be worn as under knicks – under shorts, cargo pants, track suit or other loose-fitting trousers.

Available in sizes 2XS-3XL, where 2XS=28″ waist, XS=30, S=32, M=34, etc.

Portsea

Portsea short sleeve cycling jersey by UNO

Portsea  for men or women. The AirFlow material is a slightly heavier weave than UNO’s Bondi, Cairns, Grafton and Saul Pasque, but being a  wicking fabric it allows for moisture transformation from the body to keep the rider cool and dry.

Features include:

  •  3 rear pockets;
  • a full-length zip;
  • and elasticised arm bands and waist .

The Portsea  jersey comes in 2 colours: front & back, plus underarm and shoulder panels, eg:
* red with white panels,
* yellow with black or grey,
* blue with yellow, and
* black with white.

These and other great bargain cycling clothes or bicycle wear can be purchased at ABC Bicycle Outlets.
